IslandRetreat
Exuma Cays, Bahamas

Situated on the hilltop of a private Caribbean island, this 7,500 sq ft retreat comprises five distinct structures carefully placed to embrace views, breezes, and the site’s natural topography. The compound includes three casitas, a central living and dining pavilion, and a small support staff building.
A neutral palette of coral stone and wood allows the architecture to nest comfortably into its surroundings. Gently battered stone walls support continuous clerestory ribbon windows beneath wood-shingled roofs with generous overhangs, providing shade while filling the interiors with soft natural light.
Large sliding glass pocket doors disappear fully into the adjacent walls, opening each structure to the landscape and framing uninterrupted views from the arrival court to the turquoise sea beyond. Within each residence, exposed converging rafters accentuate the height and geometry of the primary living spaces, providing a delightful sense of vertical scale inside a modest footprint.
